BSQO Hunts for More Nuts – REPLY TO WIN!

Monday, January 11, 2010

In 10 days, Garth and I head to the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City. This will be our 4th year attending what, in the industry, is known as “OR” and we are just as excited as ever. It is heaven for anyone who loves the latest in outdoor gear, fashion and gadgets. It is always a very busy trip for us (although we seem to manage to sneak in a few days of skiing), but we come home inspired by and enthusiastic about the cool products we see, the great people we meet and the new trends we spot.

A couple of years ago, I remember noticing that almost every in-the-know guy or gal was sporting their “shiny” insulated coats (made from down or primaloft) and I quickly discovered how essential these pieces are. Lightweight, warm and compressible enough to stuff anywhere, I now never leave home without one. Some of you have trusted us and purchased some personal sheen; my bet is that others will soon follow.

Here is what I need from you – some quick feedback. What do you want to see more or less of from Black Squirrel? Are there any brands or items you think BSQO should be checking out? Post a quick comment on this blog and you will be ELEGIBLE to win a Patagonia Down Sweater. BSQO will select randomly from all those who post comments to the blog or send e-mails directly to me at anne@bsqo.com. Please enter “BSQO January Feedback” in the subject line if you’re sending an e-mail. The Patagonia prize will be awarded next Tuesday, Jan 19 – so respond quickly!

your storefront pic looks great. Can't wait to see what you find at the OR. My men are always on the look for v-neck sweaters (boring you may say), but it's hard to find ones that aren't too boxy. Smart wool socks have become on of our family favorites, not sure if you've ever thought about carrying those.
have fun...shop and ski hard...Alicia

I Love my Moonboots. A throw back to the 80's, but incredibly warm and fun. You can even drive in them!! Kay

As a new customer to Black Squirrel I am thrilled with all my holiday purchases! The biggest hits for our family have been the Mountain Khaki cords and the pullover (black) sweater made by Ibex. If I had a suggestion it would be to have some smaller items, notably scarves, gloves and hats, even socks or wallets. I love the "vibe" of the stuff you carry -- casual that can be dressed up and am glad that you don't do ties.
Have fun at the outdoor show. My brother-in-law, Tommy Knoll, works for a company called CAMP and he'll be there -- maybe he'll even be wearing the wool vest (in green) I got for him!
Best,
Jessica

Black Squirrel Outfitters is the only retail store in Pelham, other than the Wolfslane Deli (if that counts as a retail store), that I am interested in. It is convienient and fun to have a store in pelham that sells brands like Arc'teryx, Patagonia, Mountain Khaki, and Cloudveil. As a boarding school student in New Hampshire, I may be a stranger to Pelham, but I'm no stranger to the long, frigid, and brutal winters in New Hampshire. Spending a day ski patrolling at the local ski area, searching for powder stashes in the trees, or even skiing spring corn at Tuckermans Ravine demands durable, high quality gear, which I consistently find at BSQO. Everytime I come home for thanksgiving break I go back up to school with something that will keep me warm and dry on the slopes, at work, or walking around campus. The only thing I would like to see more of from BSQO are more product my size. I really have no complaints and couldn't be happier with such a great selection of gear so close to my house. - Sam

I love your store of course and my only problem is getting out of the house. I would love to see a bit of edgy tech stuff for women to ski in as well as men. Maybe some great ski sweaters that are streamlined for wearing under a ski jacket or just around the house too. And those great merino layering pieces for under ski pants and tops. I have been noticing that people are wearing more dense wool knits and not only fleece for skiing.

Also, some great cashmere socks for the guys and I love the zip front sweaters as well. Sort of like a motorcycle jacket but in a knit. My husband wants one of those Nordic knit sweaters. Really traditional Icelandic garb... I'm sure you know the type. Do you think I'm nuts? I really need to get into your store! We are still wearing the birdwells all the time for winter swimming! Love them.

Take care and wishing you all the best,
Kristin

Thanks for all of the great clothes I got for Xmas, Anne! I'm wearing my cozy Ibex pullover as I write this and watch the Heels. I'll send the pics of Henry and me in our new shirts. Hope you and Garth get to do some good skiing out west, and we hope to see you here soon (trunk show?). Jordan

Love the Cloudveil hat I bought. I've worn it XC skiing, running, and just about everywhere else. Very friendly service!

As my brother-in-law said, "Anne gets it"! He wore his green Cloudveil jacket everyday in Paris and it was the perfect weight and comfort. He doesn't want to play paddle in it, for fear of sweating in it!!! My Godson loved his vest that I got him for Christmas (he has to hide if from his Dad), and while I was shopping at BSQO I was able to pick up a pair of great gloves for his mom! I would love to see more womens clothes but it's great to have a sure-bet clothing store for the guys!! and it's in PELHAM!!!!!
Wishing you success!!
Sue

I think you're doing great stuff and have great, hip brands, I think you website desperately needs improvement. While you don't necessarily need to move into online sales and I think more pictures of what kinds of inventory you have could definitely do some good.
